ACADEMIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
| Course Objectives: | Four courses will be available for a total of 6 credit hours (2
undergraduate and 2 graduate courses). CJ4900 Special Topics; CJ 4700
Comparative CJ Systems; MCJ6250 Special Topics; MCJ6260 Graduate Readings.
Students will be expected to attend all visits including: Terrorist Control Techniques, Alcazar in Toledo, attendance in court, visits to prison and law enforcement facilities in Madrid and Barcelona, and crowd control and enforcement in Pamplona. To meet course objectives, students will identify and complete a project dealing with an aspect of Comparative Criminal Justice. Students will obtain a comparative perspective of criminal justice, experience the operations of the Spanish criminal justice system, and observe the various components of the social system and how it relates to criminal justice. |

| Assignments: | Students will be expected to produce a written paper and make an oral presentation on this project. Grading will be done on attendance, participation, and the final project. |

| Housing/food arrangements: | Local hotels that may include breakfast. Participants must provide their own lunch and dinners. | ||
| Selection Criteria: | All participants will either be students at WSU or their guests. Must be 18 years old. Must be prepared to walk, but will not be subject to unordinary physical challenges. | ||
| Risk Management: | Though Spain is relatively safe, students are reminded to remain vigilant with regard to their personal security and to exercise caution. Pickpockets are active in highly populated tourist destinations, airports, and train stations. Students should always travel in pairs. | ||
Emergency Management: |
Each participant will provide emergency contact information. Cellular phones work well in the cities being visited. Most of the hotels will have email access. The group will keep in contact with Continuing Education and will contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate should the need arise. |
