Module #1 Theory of Constraints (10 hours)
Participants will:
  • Study the history of TOC and the development of Systems Thinking Processes
  • Discuss the structure and application of TOC concepts
  • Learn the difference between structure and applications
  • Define sufficiency and necessity-based logic and learn to distinguish the difference between them
  • Learn to find the core problem and define a realistic solution through the Five Focusing Steps:
    1. Identify the constraint
    2. Exploit the constraint
    3. Subordinate to the constraint
    4. Elevate the constraint
    5. Start over at step one when the constraint moves
  • Participate in a computer production simulation lab
  • Discuss the value of using the Systems Thinking Processes to analyze what needs to be changed, what to change to, and how to make that change happen

Module #2 Lean Thinking (10 hours)
Participants will:

  • Discuss the history of the Toyota Production System (TPS) and its impact on the Lean Thinking movement
  • Explore the structure and philosophies of Lean Thinking:
    1. Identify activities that create value
    2. Determine the sequence of activities (Value Stream)
    3. Eliminate activities that do not add value
    4. Allow for customer “pull” products and services
    5. Improve the process (start over)
  • Discuss and review the TPS Seven Wastes

Module #3 Six Sigma (10 hours)
Participants will:

  • Learn the fundamental theories of variation
  • Be exposed to the fundamentals of normal distribution
  • Define Six Sigma and its methodologies, including DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, control)
  • Create a charter for the workplace project
  • Discuss why Six Sigma is a necessity in many of today’s competitive industries
  • Discuss the basics of implementing problem-solving methodologies into organizational culture
  • Gain an understanding of Statistical Process Control
  • Study probability statistics
  • Look at inference studies and apply them to real-world events
  • Implement lessons learned from the TLS model in a catapult exercise

Module #4 Implementing a CPI Culture (15 hours)
Participants will:

  • Be coached on how to build leadership commitment
  • Align CPI activities with organizational strategic goals/values
  • Establish CPI infrastructure to initiate/sustain the CPI culture
  • Participate in a CPI Kaizen Event:
    1. Pre-event activities (preparing for the event)
    2. Event week
    3. Post-event activities (sustaining the changes made)
  • Establish monitoring system/metrics to sustain CPI culture
