Module #1 Theory of
Constraints (10 hours)
Participants
will:
- Study the history of
TOC and the development
of Systems Thinking
Processes
- Discuss the
structure and
application of TOC
concepts
- Learn the difference
between structure and
applications
- Define sufficiency
and necessity-based
logic and learn to
distinguish the
difference between them
- Learn to find the
core problem and define
a realistic solution
through the Five
Focusing Steps:
1. Identify the
constraint
2. Exploit the
constraint
3. Subordinate to the
constraint
4. Elevate the
constraint
5. Start over at step
one when the constraint
moves
- Participate in a
computer production
simulation lab
- Discuss the value of
using the Systems
Thinking Processes to
analyze what needs to be
changed, what to change
to, and how to make that
change happen
Module #2 Lean Thinking (10
hours)
Participants will:
- Discuss the history
of the Toyota Production
System (TPS) and its
impact on the Lean
Thinking movement
- Explore the
structure and
philosophies of Lean
Thinking:
1. Identify activities
that create value
2. Determine the
sequence of activities
(Value Stream)
3. Eliminate activities
that do not add value
4. Allow for customer
“pull” products and
services
5. Improve the process
(start over)
- Discuss and review
the TPS Seven Wastes
Module #3 Six Sigma (10
hours)
Participants will:
- Learn the
fundamental theories of
variation
- Be exposed to the
fundamentals of normal
distribution
- Define Six Sigma and
its methodologies,
including DMAIC (define,
measure, analyze,
improve, control)
- Create a charter for
the workplace project
- Discuss why Six
Sigma is a necessity in
many of today’s
competitive industries
- Discuss the basics
of implementing
problem-solving
methodologies into
organizational culture
- Gain an
understanding of
Statistical Process
Control
- Study probability
statistics
- Look at inference
studies and apply them
to real-world events
- Implement lessons
learned from the TLS
model in a catapult
exercise
Module #4 Implementing a CPI
Culture (15 hours)
Participants
will:
- Be coached on how to
build leadership
commitment
- Align CPI activities
with organizational
strategic goals/values
- Establish CPI
infrastructure to
initiate/sustain the CPI
culture
- Participate in a CPI
Kaizen Event:
1. Pre-event activities
(preparing for the
event)
2. Event week
3. Post-event activities
(sustaining the changes
made)
- Establish monitoring
system/metrics to
sustain CPI culture
