Workshop Content
This course is designed for licensed dental hygienists who are interested in obtaining an endorsement to administer local anesthesia and/or review pharmacological principles related to the use of local anesthetics in dentistry.
This pre-session self study and clinical workshop will provide you with the didactic information and clinical experience required to take the Western Regional Examination Board (WREB) Dental Hygiene Local Anesthesia Exam. Additional topics to be reviewed in the course include:
- Pharmacology principles
- Nerve physiology
- Obtaining a baseline medical history
- Complications of local anesthesia
Self-Study/Clinical Workshop Format - After registering, you will be sent a self-study guide. In preparation
for the course, you need to obtain a copy of the textbook and complete all pre-session readings and exercises that are outlined in the course workbook. - You should plan on four to six hours of pre-session study in advance of
the course. - The on-campus course spans two days, any questions concerning the
reading material will be addressed and a review exam will take place on the first day. - Under the supervision and instruction of faculty, course participants
will administer anesthesia and will serve patients for each other.

WREB Examination
Participants will be responsible for obtaining the information, testing dates, and the application for the WREB examination. This information should be obtained from www.wreb.org.
