WHAT IS THE UTAH LAW ENFORCEMENT
ACADEMY (ULEA)?
Also called the Police Academy, the ULEA is
the basic training program for the certification of law enforcement and
corrections
officers.
The academy is divided into
two (2) modules:
Module 1 - Special Functions
Officer/Basic Corrections
Officer (SFO/BCO) Curriculum
provides training for
certification as a Special
Functions Officer/Auxiliary
Officer and Corrections Officer.
Module 2 - Law Enforcement
Officer (LEO) Curriculum
provides the remaining training
necessary for certification of
an officer with full police
powers. [Entry requirements for
Module 2 include certification
as a Corrections, or Special
Functions Officer (completion of Module 1
- SFO/BCO)]
Positions requiring
Module I training include
constables, auxiliary officers, bailiffs, reserve officers, state prison and
county jail officers, and other special
functions officers, as approved by the department.
Positions requiring both
Special Functions
Officer/Basic Corrections
Officer (SFO/BCO) (Module 1) and Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)
(Module 2) training include police officers,
highway patrol troopers, and
deputy sheriffs,
with full police powers.
Combined Daytime
Academy (Modules 1 and 2)
This class meets 8 hours
a day, Mon. - Fri., 8:00 am
- 5:00 pm at the Weber State
University Training and
Learning Center, located in
Layton, UT. This class
provides all three
certifications, SFO, BCO,
and LEO in just five months.

| Weber State University Continuing Education presents the law enforcement academy structured to provide perspective, knowledge, and training in this dynamic field. The breadth and depth of this training allows participants to acquire the necessary skills for certification as Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) with full police powers or as Special Functions Officers. |
