50 - 50 Program

WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY
On-Campus Student Employment Funding Program (50-50) for Undergraduate Program Description for the 2011-2012 Academic Year
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Weber State University On-Campus Student Employment Funding Program for undergraduates is a new program that will launch in conjunction with the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters. It will offer full-time undergraduate students additional employment opportunities that contribute directly to their career objectives and major and increase their abilities in teamwork, communication, and customer service.
Resident, non-resident, and international students will be eligible to work under its provisions. This program is not a student income-based program like the workstudy program. Departments desiring to create these new employment positions must submit an application form and will be required to contribute 50% of each student’s wages. This program fund will provide the other 50%.
These positions are to be “new” positions, not current ones that are “rolled over” in order to help pay for students already employed. This program is designed to create new student employment experiences, not replace funding for existing positions. A selection committee made up of three representatives from Career Services will carefully review each position request and will award those that meet the selection criteria as described below:
SELECTION CRITERA:
* Position does not exceed 20 hours per week.
* Position provides meaningful work contributing to a student’s career objective and/or major field of study.
* Position supports the retention and student success efforts of the university.
* Position allows for development of skills in areas of customer service, teamwork and communication
Wages will begin at $8.50 per hour for up to 20 hours per week for the weeks covered by fall and spring semesters. If a department feels the position they are offering deserves a higher rate, that department is required to pay 100% of the amount above $8.50.
* For more information, or to apply, please see the links to the right. For other questions or concerns contact April Geffre at (801) 626-6396 or Barry Flitton at (801) 626-8958.
