Advanced Placement Courses & Exams (AP)
Benefits
- Taking AP classes
is a good way to
demonstrate your
scholastic ability and
commitment to college.
- You'll get a
rigorous academic
experience.
- You can complete
university general
education or elective
credits before you
come to the
university, and
possible reduce your
time in college.
- You can earn up to
eight college
credits per exam for
AP scores of 3, 4,
or 5
Considerations
- Each exam will
cost you and/or your
family approximately
$80.
- Successful
completion of an AP
course does not
guarantee a passing
grade on the AP exam.
- Exams are
administered in the
spring on dates set by
the national AP
office. If you miss
the exam or do poorly,
you'll forfeit both
the cost and the
credit.
- AP credit can
count as general
education or elective
credit, but it can't
count toward your
college major.
- AP credit is
pass/fail: You won't
get a letter grade.
Some university and
college programs won't
accept AP scores in
place of a course with
a grade.
- Each university
applies AP credit
differently toward its
graduation
requirements.
