General Studies Associate Degree Plans for Early
College Students
WSU offers a variety of associate
degrees any of which will fulfill
the requirements for the Utah State
New Century scholarship. Most Early
College students fulfill the
requirements for an Associate Degree
in General Studies. This associate
degree fulfills all the general
education requirements at WSU and
allows for ease of transfer to
another state university. In place
of obtaining an Associate degree, a
student may also complete a rigorous
math and science curriculum (pdf) to
receive the New Century Scholarship.
An Associate Degree in General
Studies requires 60 total credit
hours, 20 of which must be in
residence at WSU. WSU Concurrent
Enrollment and Early College credits
will count toward the required
residency credits. AP and CLEP
credits will not count toward the
residency requirement. Depending on
the course options chosen, the
general education credits will total
around 40. This leaves about 20
elective credits to sum the 60 total
credits required.
The Early College Office in
conjunction with your high school
has developed an associate degree
plan to assist you to fulfill your
university general education and
high school requirements through
Concurrent Enrollment (CE) and
Advanced Placement (AP) at your high
school, and Early College (EC) at
Weber State. The associate degree
plan is intended to be a guide in
selecting high school courses. It is
based on curriculum information
provided by the high school. Course
offerings and degree requirements
are subject to change. If you intend
to use AP, CE, & EC courses to earn
a degree at Weber State University,
you will need to work with both your
high school counselor and an Early
College advisor to make sure you are
on track.
