Frequently Asked Questions
Will I earn high school or
university credits in Early College?
You'll earn both. Like any other
freshman at WSU, you’ll get
university credit for university
courses, and they’ll be listed on
your official WSU grade record
(transcript). WSU will also send
your grades to your high school,
where they will count toward your
high school graduation requirements.
Most Utah public high schools award
one credit for each three WSU Early
College credit hours.
Will I need help from my high
school counselor?
Yes. Your high school counselor’s
signature is required on the Early
College application. In addition,
work closely with your high school
counselor and one of the WSU Early
College academic advisors. They’ll
coordinate your course schedule to
meet your high school graduation
requirements, and they’ll answer
your questions so you can succeed.
After I graduate high school will I
be considered an incoming freshman
or a continuing student?
It's up to you. There are some
wonderful scholarship opportunities
for incoming freshman that Early
College students are eligible for
once they graduate from high school.
Incoming freshman WSU scholarships
are based on a students’ high school
cumulative GPA and composite ACT
score. Hence, many students opt to
be considered as an incoming
freshman. There are, however, many
excellent opportunities for
continuing students. Continuing
student WSU scholarships are based
on a students’ WSU GPA – your high
school GPA and composite ACT score
are not considered. Talk to our
advisors if you're having trouble
deciding.
Do my Early College credits
count toward high school graduation?
Usually, yes. Ultimately it is up
to your high school to decide which
WSU credits are accepted and which
WSU credits are not. Typically, 3
credits at WSU equal one credit (or
a one-year course) at the high
school. See the equivalency page for
more detail.
Can I be an Early College
student if I have been home
schooled?
Yes. We’ll be happy to work with
you. Simply fill out the Early
College application and send it to
us with your ACT scores. We will
also need a transcript of sorts
listing the courses or course
equivalent of what you have
completed through your home
schooling. As a home school student
without a GPA, you will be assessed
a standard GPA of 3.50 from the
Early College office. This GPA will
allow the Early College office to
assess your index score. Will I
still get my high school diploma?
Yes. The WSU Early College
academic advisors will work with you
and your high school counselor to
make sure the classes you register
for will meet your high school
graduation requirements. You can
still participate in your high
school graduation ceremonies. How
many classes should I sign up for?
You may take a full university
schedule of 12 credit hours or more,
or you may combine a few classes at
your high school with one or two
university classes per semester. You
may enroll in any of the courses at
WSU that build on your academic
background, as long as you meet the
prerequisites. These courses will
fulfill requirements for both high
school and university graduation and
are transferable to other colleges
and universities.
How do I transfer my credit to
another university?
All of your college credit can be
transferred to other public
universities/colleges within Utah.
You will need to check with other
private schools or out-of-state
colleges and universities about
which credits they will accept.
You can transfer your credit by
submitting a written request (faxed
or mailed) to the records
department.
What special features and
activities does Early College offer?
You can enjoy university life and
access many campus resources. These
resources may include tutorial
services, career and personal
counseling, athletic events,
association memberships, cultural
events, honors program, travel
study, student activities and more.
How do I contact the Early
College office?
Go to the Contact Information
page.
Do I need an ACT score to enroll
in Early College?
Yes. All students interested in
enrolling at Weber State through
Early College must have an ACT
score. We recommend you take the ACT
as early as your freshman year in
high school. Universities and
colleges use your ACT score to
determine admission and scholarship
opportunities. |
