Educate the Educator
(CESPEC127)

Description

This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) guidelines for the instructors who teach adults in a Nursing Assistant Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). Prior to approval of a NATCEP, the program coordinator and primary instructors must have successfully completed a Train the Trainer type program (Educate the Educator) approved by the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) or have demonstrated competence to teach adult learners as defined by the UNAR.

It is required for Program Coordinators and Primary Instructors. This course must be completed prior to teaching in any Utah Certified Nursing Assistant program.

Federal Regulations: Instructors must have completed a course in teaching adults or have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides.

Instructor: Kathy Culliton is tenured faculty in the School of Nursing at Weber State University. Kathy received her Master of Science degree from the University of Utah College of Nursing in 1989 as an Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. Textbook: Teaching Strategies for Nurse Educators by Sandra De Young. Prentice Hall 2nd Ed. ISBN 978-0-13-179026-1 (Approximately $50 – Available through Weber State University Bookstore http://bookstore.weber.edu) or through many online bookstores.

Course Length: Students must complete the course within 3 months. Online access – no campus visits required. This is a non-credit course.

Completion: Upon completion, the student receives a certificate of completion. Students should add the certificate to their qualification packet for teaching CNA.

This course is available for public enrollment registration.
