ACADEMIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
| Course Objectives: | Among other things, students will study art and architecture of Peru ranging from Pre-Colombian architecture, such as Machu Picchu, through the Colonial period, visiting colonial cathedrals such as La Compañia. Students will examine contemporary Peruvian art through visits to galleries in Lima. Courses will be offered in Art 4110 (3 credits), Art 4810 (4 credits), and Art 2810 (4 credits). Students may take the drawing course and one of the art history courses based on their pre-requisites. Students may not take both art history courses. |

| Housing and Food Arrangements: | Local hotels, tent camping along the Inca trail. Generally two meals a day are included. In-country transportation, including air travel between Lima and Cuzco is included. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Selection criteria: | Targeted primarily toward Art majors in their sophomore through senior year. Students must display a maturity appropriate for travel to a foreign country where the customs may not be similar to those in the U.S. Students need to be in a physical condition that will accommodate living at 11,000 feet above sea level. Although we will be hiking the Inca Trail, participation in the hike is optional. It is physically strenuous and students should be very fit if they choose to participate. Those who do not wish to hike the trail will stay in Cuzco and travel by train to Machu Picchu. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Students are advised to consult with their doctor before this trip. It is
strongly recommended that students receive the hepatitis A vaccination. In
addition to consulting with their doctors, students may want to review the

| Emergency Management: | Each participant will provide emergency contact information. Contact information for all the locations on the itinerary will be provided. We will keep in contact with Continuing Education should the need arise. |
