Hematology/Oncology

A specialist in hematology and oncology provides diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic and hematologic diseases. These include blood disorders, such as aplastic anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, and cancers of the bladder, breast, colon, esophagus, kidney, lung, prostate and skin, as well as hematologic malignancies, lymphomas, and other solid tumors. The specialty requires three years of residency training in internal medicine, followed by a three-year fellowship in hematology and medical oncology. Treatment incorporates an interdisciplinary approach in concert with surgical and radiation oncology.
