A quality education through a quality faculty
Meet the faculty and staff of the Weber State University Department of Communication -- all thorough, professional communicators who know the importance of quality education and truly care about the development their students.

Dr. Randolph J. Scott
Department Chair, Associate professor

Teaching and learning philosophy

While it is necessary to teach and learn 'facts' about communication, my preference is to focus on theory and principles of communication, on making connections among ideas, and on critical thinking.

Teaching and learning philosophy

My personal goals in teaching include creating a safe environment where students can learn, question, practice and test their journalism skills, yet I want to set vigorous standards so they are also adequately prepared to work in the very demanding field of journalism.

Dr. Becky Johns
Associate professor

Philosophy of teaching

I believe students learn best when they are given experiential experiences to connect to theory and principles. We all learn best by doing. I am dedicated to the success of my students. I like people and I very much enjoy teaching and the field of communication.

Dr. Sheree Josephson
Professor

Philosophy of teaching and learning

I try to stimulate my students in the classroom so that they want to learn more about the subject matter on their own outside of the classroom. I also believe that learning should be a lot of work, yet a lot of fun for students. During class time, I try to present challenging material in entertaining ways.

Ty Sanders
Instructor Specialist

Philosophy of teaching and learning

I try to bring my 18 years of broadcasting experience into the classroom. At the same time, I stress universal industry principles. Electronic media is a dynamic and ever-changing industry. My goal is to teach students the fundamental tools that will help them adapt to any electronic media environment.

Ty is currently on a 2 year sabbatical while he earns his Ph.D.  He is, however,  teaching online classes for the department and his e-mail address is still the same.
