Carey Francis, a 2D major, describes the influences on her artwork: My memories are of the Deep South in Texas where I was born and lived for over 40 years. The last nineteen years I spent in the ghettos of Dallas, Texas where I saw people struggling with poverty, drug addiction and violence. These experiences are the sources for my artwork.
Venessa Gromek, a 3D major, describes her work: My sculptures are made of lace and tent poles that speak to compactness and portability in sculpture. The forms engage both in the tradition of modernism and in tent design. The idea stems from my work in the outdoor industry and my interest in how that industry engages with the tradition of sublime in the landscape.
An opening reception for the artists will be held on April 13th from 7–9PM.
The exhibition runs from April 13 through April 29. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11-5 p.m. and Saturday 12-5 p.m.
The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
