GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT
| "As a young man, my fondest dream was to become a geographer. However, while working in the Patent Office, I thought deeply about the matter and concluded that it was far too difficult a subject. With some reluctance, I then turned to Physics as a substitute." | |
| --Albert Einstein | |
| WSU Geography | What is geography? |
Why is it like that there? Geography begins with a lack of uniformity on the earth's surface. People, their activities, and physical features are distributed unevenly across space, so one of our most important tasks is to explain why things are where they are. But that is not all. |

Geography at Weber State University |
The WSU Geography Department has its own Computer Cartography Laboratory (CCL), and aerial photography lab, and a map library. CCL consists of several networked state of the art PCs, a color inkjet printer, color scanner, digitizing tablet, and a Magellan GPS unit. Students and faculty utilize several software programs in their studies, including ESRI, ArcView, GIS, SPSS, and Microsoft Office. Students also have access to the Learning Support Center Lab which also contains ArcView, SPSS, and the office software. The aerial photography lab has numerous stereographic instruments and contains over 25,000 photo files. The department's map collection includes hundreds of topographic, geologic, and specialty maps. The map library is a part of Weber State University's Stewart Library, a U.S. Geological Survey map depository. |
