Personal
My wife, Brenda, and I have been team teaching fitness courses for approximately 15 years. We manage a blended-extended family out of two homes. We recently built a log home which is affectionately referred to as the "chain saw massacre!" My greatest challenge in life has been managing my long time companion, cancer, and coping with the chronic ramifications of a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant. Some of the major joys in my life are: my wife, children, grandchildren, memories, my American Classic motor cycle in "Big Sky Country," sunrises & sunsets,  skiing, tennis, cross training, Barbara Streisand, Bill Cosby, country music, humans with integrity and students with a strong desire to learn! The few minor frustrations of my life are: unproductive committees, pessimistic primates void of purpose, user friendly technology, simplified IRS forms, and uncertified politicians!

Teaching Philosophy
I believe the primary goal of learning is to enable each of us to manage our circumstances to the best of our ability. The process of learning is a collaborative venture in a continuously changing universe. Both teacher and student must strive to become principle centered learners yet remain comfortable with uncertainty and confident of confusions role while engaged in the learning process. As teacher my primary role is that of facilitator and manager of the learning experience. Throughout the learning process, as a learning team, we will attempt to incorporate a learning model that: (1) establishes an anticipatory set (identifies what is to be learned and outlines accompanying expectations). (2) provides for collaborative learning through a variety of learning strategies. (3) provides opportunities for guided practice with formative evaluations. (4) allows for independent practice prior to review and summative evaluation. (5) motivates us to strive for excellence and (6) encourages us to care about one another while engaged in the learning experience.

Professional Focus
In the area of measurement for evaluation and research, my primary interest has been development of performance profiles (assessing fitness, sport skill, professional attributes). In neuromuscular conditioning, my focus has been directed at enhancing the aerobic and strength training programs and developing a comprehensive program to assist our students in obtaining national certification as aerobic instructors, strength coaches, and personal trainers. My primary emphasis in learning and leadership has been in thought processing and the development of a displayed thought management system (SCOPE) capable of enhancing organizational innovation and collaboration, providing more effective means of resolving conflict and bringing synergy to both individual and group problem solving processes. In the field of human performance, my efforts have been centered on qualitative analysis and developing one of the best undergraduate human performance labs in the country.
