Scholarships

 

Scholarships within the Department of Health Promotion and
Human Performance include:

  • the Swenson scholarship for physical education teaching majors (teaching emphasis)

  • the Motta scholarship for physical education teaching majors or physical education teaching/coaching minors (coaching emphasis)

  • the Hirst scholarship for athletic training majors
     

THE REED K. SWENSON
PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP

(Approximately $800 stipend)

REQUIREMENTS:
1.
    Junior or senior status
2.
    Acceptable GPA
3.
    Personal/Financial Need
4.
    Professional Involvement
5.
    Extra Curricular Activities
    - Teaching
    - Coaching
    - Intramurals
    - Other contributions to department and/or profession

*Applications are accepted last of March, early April, and the recipient is announced at the annual Swenson Awards Banquet.

  1. Applicant must be a Physical Education Teaching Major with at least junior status.  

  2. Applications must be typed/word processed and include all the information, and only the information requested on Forms I and II.

THE DICK MOTTA SCHOLARSHIP
(Approximately $1400 stipend)

REQUIREMENTS:
1.
    Physical Education Teaching Major or Physical Education Teaching/Coaching Minor.
2.
    GPA -  3.0 or better.
3.
    Personal/Financial Need.

*Applications are accepted last of March, early April, and recipient is announced at the annual Swenson Awards Banquet.

  1. Applicant must be a Physical Education Teaching Major or a Physical Education Teaching/Coaching Minor.

THE DR. AND MRS. RUSSELL N. HIRST MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

REQUIREMENTS:
1.
    Student athletic trainer with at least junior status.
2.
    GPA -  3.0 or better.
3.
    Unique promise and desire to continue professionally in the field of athletic training or sports medicine.

*Applications are accepted last of March, early April, and recipient is announced at the annual Swenson Awards Banquet.

  1. Applicant must be an Athletic Training Major or a B. I. S. Major with Sports Medicine Emphasis.

  2. Applications must be typed/word processed and include all the information, and only the information requested on Forms I and II.

THE CAROL S. WESTMORELAND SCHOLARSHIP

Directions:

1.  Applications must be typed/word processed and include all information, and only the information required on Forms I and II, as well as a printed Lynx transcript.

2.  Applications must be returned by February 1, 2007 to the Health Promotion & Human Performance administrative offices (102B) in the Swenson Building by 4:30 p.m.

Award Criteria:

1.  Applicant must be a junior or senior majoring in Physical Education teaching.

2.  The student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

3.  The scholarship shall be awarded based on financial need.

4.  The scholarship shall be for tuition only.
