Personal
I moved to Utah in 1996 from Iowa, where I spent the first 30 years of my life.  I am married, and Carol and I have a daughter, Katie.  I pursue a variety of activities for fun including golf, tennis, softball, hiking and riding my Bianchi bicycle.  I have completed RAGBRAI (check out the link) two times, and parts of three others.  Since moving to Utah, I have taken up snow skiing, and can be located floundering down the side of some mountain on many weekends during the winter.  I also love pop music (Chicago rules), and most people are surprised to learn that I used to run a mobile disc jockey service, which I still do once and a while for fun.

Educational Philosophy
I have been involved in the education system in one form or another since I started kindergarten.  I think that education is a path that we follow throughout our lifetime, even when our formal schooling ends.  I enjoy the process of teaching, and watching students learn, and finding along the way that there is a new way to look at things I thought I already mastered.  I firmly believe in grading based upon achievement, mastering of competencies, and academic honesty.

Professional Focus
I am trained as an exercise physiologist, and my main interest lies in performance metabolism.  I have done work in creatine supplementation, and the effects of different beverages on rehydration following exercise.  I also am interested in computers and computer science, including web design, desktop publishing, video editing, and building, troubleshooting and repairing computers.
