WSU announces 1999-2000 scholarship-application deadline
Thursday, January 21, 1999

OGDEN, Utah - Students seeking scholarships from Weber State University for the 1999-2000 school year must apply and complete university admission requirements by Feb. 1.

WSU annually awards about $2.5 million in scholarships to more than 2,600 students, said Jose Gomez, scholarships specialist. The university offers campus-based tuition scholarships for academics and extra-curricular activities. In addition, a wide range of sponsor scholarships, also referred to as endowments, are available.

"Every year there are students who miss scholarship opportunities because their applications are late or incomplete at the time we make the awards," he said. "We encourage students to apply as early as possible for scholarships. While this does not offer an advantage in how they are awarded, it does allow our office to process applications faster. As a result, we are able to respond to applicants quickly if we encounter any problems with their application."

Application forms for WSU scholarships are available at the Scholarship Office in Student Services Center 101A. Forms also can be obtained at high schools throughout the state. For more information or to request a scholarship brochure call 626-6029.

For students interested in gaining information about off-campus scholarships, WSU provides a scholarship library with published resources and Internet capabilities. "Just because a student lacks a high grade-point average doesn't necessarily mean they can't qualify for some type of scholarship," Gomez said. "We have identified hundreds of resources on the Internet and can help students locate them."
