UMT is Tilting at Windmills with Man of La Mancha

OGDEN, Utah – Utah Musical Theatre will close its 2001 season "Tales of Survivors" with Man of La Mancha. Sobreviviente, Spanish for survivor, is the perfect description of Miguel de Cervantes as he paints the picture of Don Quixote, a man who survives the adversaries of life by seeing the possibilities in everyone and everything.
The musical is set in a dreary prison in Seville, Spain, where Cervantes, an aging and utter failure in his varied careers as playwright, poet and tax collector for the government, awaits his trial by the Inquisition for an offense against the Church. He is hailed before a kangaroo court of his fellow prisoners, thieves, trollops and cutthroats, who propose to confiscate his processions, which includes the uncompleted manuscript of his novel, Don Quixote. Seeking to save it, Cervantes proposes a novel defense in the form of entertainment.
The production opens August 3 and continues August 4, 8-11 and 15-18 at Peery's Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The matinee on Saturday, August 11 will begin at 2 p.m. followed by the 7:30 p.m. performance.
Tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for students and seniors and are available at the Dee Events Center Ticket Office, 626-8500 or 1-800-WSU-TIKS, and Peery's Egyptian Theater Box Office, 395-3227.
Free parking is available at the Ogden City Mall and Weber Center parking terraces off of 24th and Washington Blvd. Additional parking will be available through NDA Parking Terrace at 2424 Kiesel Ave. (directly behind the theater) for a small charge.
