WSU Commencement Ceremonies Planned May 3-4 Tuesday, May 01, 2001
OGDEN, Utah - Weber State University officials are expecting the Class of 2001 to total more than 3,000 graduates. More than 2,000 candidates for graduation this spring will be honored May 3-4 during WSU's 117th commencement. An additional 1,024 members of the class received their degrees in conjunction with the university's winter commencement last December.
The main ceremony will be held May 3 in the Dee Events Center. An academic processional will begin at 5:40 p.m., followed by the formal program at 6 p.m. Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller will deliver the keynote address and will be awarded an honorary degree. Other honorary degree recipients are: Caseel E. Burke, former dean of WSU's College of Education (1961-82); Ben Day, former president of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ogden; and Jerry Moyes, a WSU graduate and owner of Swift Transportation Company of Phoenix, Ariz.
Putting Students Through College, a program to honor parents, spouses and friends who supported a graduate, will precede the commencement at 3:30 p.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom.
WSU's business school, six academic colleges and degree-granting programs will hold individual convocations May 4 at various campus locations.
