What can I do with a Psychology degree?

Whether you choose a major, minor or a bachelor of integrated studies (BIS) emphasis in psychology at WSU, you will better understand human behavior and prepare yourself for a career that involves working with people. WSU's psychology program is designed to teach the content of psychology, the major methodology of psychological inquiry and some skills and techniques in applying the concepts. A bachelor's degree in psychology can be your first step to a career in:

  • Human resources  

  • Analysis (designing surveys, collecting and analyzing data)

  • Pharmaceutical sales and manufacture

  • School counseling/psychology

  • Laboratories

  • Business/government

  • Corrections

Note:  Regardless of your career choice, a background in psychology provides you
           with insight about people-a beneficial skill you can use in any job.

What will I learn in the program?

Once you have taken an introductory psychology course and classes in basic statistics and research methods, you can tailor your coursework in many different ways. Whether your interests are in counseling, child and family issues, neuroscience, corrections, research, graduate study in psychology or other areas such as law, business, political science and personnel, your advisor can help you develop your course of study and help you choose the courses that are the best "fit" for your career goals.  

In addition, the WSU psychology program provides a variety of practicum to broaden your education in counseling, corrections, community organizations/clubs, schools, and community centers. These opportunities enable you to learn and apply interpersonal skills with a diverse group of children and adult populations while working or volunteering on a job.

What degrees/certificates are available?

Students can obtain a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Integrated Studies.  They can also obtain a teaching major or minor.

What is the application deadline?

Although there is no deadline for application, you are encouraged to apply early and register for classes. Contact the psychology department for specific information or to schedule an advisement time.
