Lesson Plan 3: An inquiry/assessment lesson

Secondary School Science Teaching Methods

DUE: Thursday, November 15th

Design and prepare to teach a 13 minute lesson on anything from the 7th or 8th grade core (must address a content objective) you want (but do read the remaining directions before you choose your topic).  Plan to engage us in a portion of the inquiry component of your lesson and to share your assessment for this (or a related) lesson.   What level of Blooms does your lesson/assessment target?

Please include a cover letter which tells me what level of inquiry you believe this lesson represents and why.  Also please tell me what level of Bloom's your assessment is targeting and why you think you are at that level.  You can add anything else, especially to convince me that this lesson not only is great but that it will accomplish YOUR stated learning goal.

Requirements:

*    Your lesson should be student centered and inquiry based (above the confirmation level).

*    Your learning goal needs to be focused (rarely is the core standard/objective/indicator the exact same thing as your goal for the lesson).  This learning goal needs to be met by your lesson and assessed by your assessment.

*    Your lesson plan should be clear enough that an informed person/substitute teacher could also understand the lesson plan and conduct it as you intend.   Make it clear what the goals of the lesson are (what is the Aenduring understanding@) and how you intend to get this idea across.  You should identify and explicitly describe how you are addressing a specific concept to be learned.  All aspects of the rubric (other than the presentation) refer to the material/information in the lesson plan.  Somewhere in the lesson there needs to be sufficient content information for me to evaluate YOUR understanding of the subject.

*    You need to include your assessment tool/strategy and it should aim for a level of  understanding at or above the application stage.

*    I need sufficient detail (including your key) to understand/evaluate your assessment, but I don't need to see the whole thing.  For example, if you were giving a multiple choice test (which of course you would NOT!!!),  I would not expect all of your questions just a few with the correct answers.

*   You will be given no more than 13 minutes to share the Aessence@ of the lesson to the rest of us.

*    Submit the lesson electronically and give me a hard copy one week after your presentation..

*    Attach a cover letter to the hard copy that clarifies what level of inquiry you believe your lesson is and why, what level of Bloom's assessment you are using and anything else you think I need to know about this lesson.
