What is the NASA Regional Educator Resource Center?
The
NASA Regional Educator Resource Center (RERC) is a local site where NASA
educational products can be obtained. The center also sponsors workshops to help
teachers update their knowledge of NASA research and NASA educational products.
What is available
at the NASA RERC?
Videos, posters, pictures
(lithographs), CDROMs, DVDs, teacher packets and bookmarks are all available
for use in the classroom. These materials can be used to support and enrich curriculum areas such as science, math, technology, social studies, and
humanities. Flyers advertising NASA opportunities for teachers and students are also available.
A list of current NASA publications is available through NASA's Central Operations of Resources for Educators (CORE) Catalog.
(This NASA CORE Catalog should not be confused with the Utah State Core Curriculum.)
This catalog is available on the internet at http://core.nasa.gov/index.html
The links below will take you to a webpage that has a catalog of all the materials we have in that area.
How do I obtain resources from the RERC?
There are 2 ways to obtain resources from the WSU RERC. You can come to Ogden to the RERC, preview
the materials, and determine what resources will be useful in your classroom or you can use the NASA Central Operations of Resources for Educators (CORE)
Catalog to determine what resources would be useful and request materials be sent to you via US Mail. Steps for using each method are outlined
below:
Come On In Method
1.
Please call (801) 626-6590 for an appointment to visit the RERC.
2. Plan plenty of time to peruse materials and determine what will be helpful to you.
3. Most of our materials are available at no charge. You can duplicate videos and request other resources from the RERC manager. There is a $2 fee for each video copied (we provide the video tape).
4. Take your materials with you for immediate use in your classroom.
Give Us a Call Method
1. Use the NASA CORE Catalog (on-line or hard copy) to determine what materials you would
like. The on-line version of the catalog has a great search feature to look for a specific topic.
2. Look at the resource lists by click on the buttons in the "What is available at the NASA RERC?" section above.
3. Make a list of materials that you feel would help you in your classroom.
4. Call WSU RERC at (801)626-6160 and request those materials or send an email to csme@weber.edu.
5. Most of our materials are available at no charge. You can duplicate videos and request other resources from the RERC manager. There is a $2 fee for each video copied (we provide the video tape). You also have to pay for shipping.
6. Mail a check payable to WSU to the following address:
Center
for Science and Mathematics Education
NASA RERC Order
LL230
2509 University Circle
Ogden, UT 88408-2509
7. Upon receipt of your check, the RERC manager will compile your materials and send them to you via US Mail. (NOTE: If you live near WSU or are going to be in the Ogden area, you can request materials in advance and pick them up if you prefer. This will save you the cost of shipping postage.)
Where is the NASA RERC?
The RERC is located at the Weber State University Center for Science and Mathematics Education offices on
the second floor of the Lind Lecture Hall adjacent to the Ott Planetarium.
(The Lind Lecture Hall is a round building on the northeast corner of campus)
