Sticky Note Impasse
by Rykki Lynn Olson

He loved over calendars but under planes
as she made lists and wrote his name
on sticky notes put everywhere
there was an empty place

to write the words of half-hatched
plans and aging thoughts, she kept
his love like a leisure boat left out
in all the kinds of weather,

and they both cursed at it, staining
wood again but each
a different color, to clash
upon the double meeting,

reminding him of Solomon,
but she refused to give it up
or cut it down and scribbled
down the lists instead

of ways to lose yourself
between calendars and planes,
too fond of the adhesive
but needing the desk-space.
