Syllabus for FL 3320: Language and Culture of Europe

Requirements: This class is required for the European Studies minor. Students wanting to receive credit for a major or minor in French, German or Spanish need to write their homework and final project, and do the research for it, in the foreign language.

Class Structure: This is an inter-disciplinary course and is taught by three instructors. The course consists of three sections. Each section will have reading assignments. There will be a home work assignment for each section. During the last week of the course students will report on their research for their final paper.

Homework:
Assignments will be due the Monday after each section. Students are required to apply their individual language expertise to the assignments.

Final Project: All students need to write a research paper, at least eight pages plus bibliography, which needs to combine several concepts from the course work and should be relevant to the student's major or minor. The topic needs to be cleared with Prof. Daines no later than  April 1st.  

 

GRADING:

•Preparation:------------------------------------------------10%
•Three  homework assignments:----------------------- 60%
•Final Project (oral presentation and paper):------- 30 %
