AITC Operational Plan
As a standing committee, the Administrative Information
Technology Committee (AITC) focuses on information management that relates to university
administrative functions and operations. Comprised of fifteen members representing broad
functionality across the university, the AITC was formed in 1994 with a charter to: (1)
provide a formal communications channel between administrative computing management and
the major users of administrative computing services, (2) identify long-term goals and
refine priorities for administrative computing, (3) apportion available resources
according to the established priorities, and (4) recommend and/or review specific
implementation actions selected to achieve desired ends.
In Fall Quarter 1996, the AITC selected the following
implementation actions as priorities (in no particular order; corresponding long-term goal [LTG] in parentheses):
- Provide, support and enhance a standardized, integrated
workgroup software environment with a robust set of standard application packages and
network services (LTG-D.3). Includes: Training and
Help Desk, Campus Directory, PPM, Human Resource Information, University Catalogue, and
Class Schedules.
- Continue to support and enhance administrative/operational
data systems through a decentralized, user-accessible data environment (LTG-D.4). Includes: Wildcard (One Card), WWW/Netscape,
Desktop Access, Student Access to Information, Alumni and Development Database, Resource
Scheduling, Electronic Publication.
- Support use of Intranet/Internet technology to
enhance/expand access to administrative information (LTG-D.5).
Includes: Campus Directory, University Catalogue, and Class Schedules.
- Create centralized proposal/funding mechanisms to
coordinate and allocate planning, maintenance, upgrade and replacement of IT resources for
administrative units (LTG-D.1). Includes: Support
of the joint ARCC/AITC IT Funding Task Force.
- Continue to support existing systems, and internally and
externally mandated priorities as they occur and are funded (LTG-D.2). Includes: New library system, USHE information
system requirements, Semester Conversion, and Year 2000 Conversion.
