Section 6.1 | The Department of Teacher Education requires all teacher licensure candidates to complete Praxis II exams as part of their professional teacher preparation. Teacher education students will be informed of Praxis II testing requirements as they participate in admissions procedures. |
Section 6.2 | Beginning Fall Semester 2005, secondary education students are required to take Praxis II exams prior to student teaching in both their academic majors and minors where such exams exists. In content disciplines without established exams, candidates must work within their academic disciplines to demonstrate subject-area mastery. |
Section 6.3 | Beginning Fall Semester 2005, elementary education students are required to take an elementary education Praxis II test prior to student teaching. Elementary education students who are working for dual licensure with special education or early childhood education endorsements must complete Praxis exams in elementary education as well as their intended endorsement area. |
Section 6.4 | Pass rates for Praxis II exams are established by the Utah State Office of Education (USOE). The Department of Teacher Education is charged with collecting, analyzing, and disseminating Praxis II test data in accord with policy established by the USOE and the US Department of Education's Title II reporting requirements. |
Section 6.5 | Once the Utah State Office of Education has established Praxis II pass rates, any teacher education student who does not meet minimum scores may repeat Praxis tests until a passing score is reached. However, such candidates will remain on a provisionally-admitted status and may not student teach. |
